Hawthorne House
"Among the best of Nantucket's many guesthouses are a pair owned by the Carl family."
Travel and Leisure Magazine, Best of Nantucket, April 2000

Built in 1849, the Hawthorn House combines lovely accommodations with a superior location. Situated on Chestnut Street, in the center of Nantucket’s historic downtown area, the Hawthorn House is surrounded by many of the finest shops, museums and restaurants the island has to offer and is just blocks from the ferries. Since 1984 innkeepers, Diane and Mitchell Carl, have been committed to making the Hawthorn House a place that people will want to return to again and again. Both have extensive knowledge of the island and are happy to share it with their guests. Each of our guestrooms is tastefully decorated Sitting Roomwith hand-hooked rugs, stained glass lamps, hand-made quilts and new and antique furnishings. The innkeepers’ love of art is evidenced by the works of many of Nantucket’s most talented artists and craftspeople on display throughout the house.

Included in the room rate are complimentary vouchers worth $9/person/day towards breakfast at two local restaurants--Arnos and The Even Keel on Main Street. This arrangement provides our guests with a variety of menu options and flexible dining times
for all but a few months in the winter when the restaurants close .
